Research Engineer / Data Scientist
4Subsea is looking to strengthen its Data Lab team with a new member. In this role, you'll join a collaborative group that focuses on solving advanced, high-risk engineering challenges—complementing the company’s standard engineering activities.

Responsibilities in the role:
- Work as a collective to solve high-risk challenges, employing scientific thinking and continuous improvement.
- Take ownership of projects, with the autonomy to scout and propose high-impact challenges, while aligning priorities with senior management in regular reviews.
- Partner with engineering teams to identify and solve complex challenges, delivering practical solutions that enhance and inspire their daily work.
- Work closely with the sensor hardware department, contributing to sensor fusion algorithms to strengthen the company’s sensor portfolio.
- Solve engineering challenges using classical methods, as well as modern machine learning techniques.
- Publish and present research findings in appropriate forums based on our work.
Qualifications we appreciate:
- Minimum of 3 years in engineering or data science roles within the offshore or maritime industry.
- Master’s or PhD in engineering or applied mathematics, with a background in mechanical or naval engineering
- Advanced proficiency in Python, with extensive experience in the Python scientific ecosystem; knowledge of additional programming languages is a plus.
- Practical experience with sensor data and machine learning applied to engineering challenges.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (beneficial but not required)
- Strong interdisciplinary understanding, able to bridge insights across mathematics and practical engineering.
- Strong and clear communicator - fluent in Norwegian and English (in writing and orally)
